Is CBD Really An Antioxidant?
What science says about CBD as an anti-oxidant?
Considering that cannabis research is still in its infancy, there is a lot of research supporting CBD's antioxidant properties. One researcher stated that CBD's powerful antioxidant properties were one of the most important findings in research on cannabis.
CBD is neuroprotective--just ask the US government.
Research from the 1990s has shown that CBD can reduce glutamate toxicities, a very serious form of toxicity that adversely affects the brain. Antioxidants may prevent glutamate toxicities, researchers had previously shown. Researchers also found that CBD was neuroprotective. They speculated that this may be due to its antioxidant properties. Researchers concluded that CBD could reduce ....oxidative damages as well as other antioxidants. They also found that CBD was more effective in protecting against glutamate toxicities than vitamin E or vitamin C, which suggests that CBD is a potent antioxidant.
Consider, also, that the U.S. government has a patent-- Patent 1999/008769--specifically for the neuroprotectant and antioxidant properties of cannabinoids. It states that the patent covers "cannabinoids acting as free radical scavengers to be used in prophylaxis or treatment of disease."
Antioxidants are an important part of CBD's "entourage."
We in the CBD world talk a lot about something called "The Entourage Effect," which is simply the notion that cannabinoids work best together, in a synergistic fashion. The "entourage effect", however, isn't just about cannabinoids. The network effect, in which antioxidants can work together in synergy to give the body the greatest benefit, was referred to by Lester Packard MD, author of "The Antioxidant Miracle."
The obvious conclusion about CBD is that it's a powerful antioxidant. Adding CBD to a diet and supplementation plan with many other antioxidants (such vitamin C, vitamin E, CoQ10, and vitamin Z) will most likely boost and strengthen your defense system. The antioxidant power of CBD is a great reason to use it, even if that were the only benefit.
It's not. It's not. Antioxidant activity is just one benefit that continues to be discovered as more research on cannabinoids continues. It is certainly a powerful one. To learn more about the CBD products we offer that are packed full of antioxidants contact us today!
