CBD For Anxiety

CBD for anxiety has received quite a lot of press recently it’s quite likely that you may have seen a number of CBD products heavily featured on health food stores near your own location. It seems like CBD producers are finding new ways that it can be integrated into our lives through food and drink. CBD has been shown to provide us a huge boost of health benefits including the treatment for anxiety. When we look in-depth into how CBD can treat anxiety, we first have to understand what CBD is and how it can serve as a benefit.

What is CBD?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. CBD is just one of the many chemicals that can be found in the cannabis plant. Cannabis Sativa plants are a species that can include marijuana and hemp. Even though THC can be found in some varieties of these plants, most CBD products are extracted directly from hemp which is known for its extremely low THC content. Most legal CBD products on the market today are extracted only from hemp plants. These products contain just .3% THC or less. Under current government regulations in the US, it can be extremely difficult to sell CBD products that have a higher concentration of THC then .3%.

CBD in recent years has become a treatment for a wide range of conditions including chronic pain, depression, anxiety, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer. The FDA only provides approval for one CBD medication called Epidiolex which is approved for treatment for two severe forms of epilepsy.

The FDA wants to ensure that any producer of CBD products is producing truly verified products. Making false statements about product compositions or how the product can benefit human health usually results in the FDA publishing letters to these companies.

How Does CBD Help Anxiety?

The chemical reaction that occurs to treat anxiety is not 100% known at this time. Some research has suggested that CBD may play a role in affecting our serotonin levels. Serotonin is a chemical in our body that plays a chief regulation role in digestion, sleep, mood, and behavior. Research has suggested that changing serotonin levels can work at treating anxiety and depression.

The Research On CBD

CBD is becoming much more popular and this is because a number of studies are conducted regarding it and its treatment for anxiety. The reason why CBD has risen to popularity in studies is because it is finally available for many scientists to get their hands on. In the past, it would be difficult for scientists to conduct any type of clinical trials because they wouldn’t be able to get access to the medication without strict government approval. Now that CBD can be legally obtained, there are more studies being conducted.

2011 studies have showcased that CBD was able to reduce anxiety and discomfort for people undertaking public speaking engagements.

A secondary study in 2011 also showed that CBD was able to reduce anxiety symptoms in people that suffer from a social anxiety disorder.

In the year 2015 49 studies were able to find a strong relation between CBD and the treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, OCD, PTSD, and panic disorder.

In 2019 a group of study participants that were struggling with sleep and anxiety went on a CBD drug trial. After the drug trial over 80% of the participants experienced a difference with their anxiety as well as improved sleep over the first month of their doses.

With positive results like this, it’s important to consider that CBD shows some incredible promise for the future. There are however an overall lack of long-term studies regarding CBD and anxiety as well as the other conditions that it can treat. In short-term studies, CBD shows promise with reducing anxiety but without any long-term studies, it’s not currently known if taking the drug over time will consistently reduce anxiety.
